Easy Cleanup and SMOOTH finish
I recently used Johnstone’s Quick Dry Satin in Brilliant White for a home renovation project, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. This paint is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to achieve a beautiful, durable finish on interior wood, metal, or even radiators. Here’s why I’m so impressed with this product:No Separate Undercoat NeededOne of the biggest advantages of Johnstone’s Quick Dry Satin is that it doesn’t require a separate undercoat. This is a huge time-saver, especially when tackling large projects. I was able to apply the paint directly to the surface, and it adhered perfectly, providing excellent coverage with just two coats. The finish was smooth and even, without any signs of streaking or patchiness. Not having to worry about an undercoat made the entire painting process faster and more straightforward.Easy ApplicationThe application of this paint is incredibly easy. The consistency is just right—not too thick or too runny—which made it a pleasure to work with. Whether I was using a brush or a roller, the paint glided on effortlessly, covering the surface with minimal effort. The satin finish looks fantastic, providing a subtle sheen that enhances the appearance of wood and metal surfaces. I was particularly pleased with how well it worked on radiators, giving them a fresh, modern look.Quick Drying TimeAnother standout feature of this paint is its quick drying time. It dries to the touch in just 1-2 hours, which allowed me to finish my project in record time. This quick turnaround is perfect for those who need to complete a project in a day or simply don’t want to wait long between coats. Despite the fast drying time, the paint doesn’t compromise on quality—each coat dries evenly and adheres well to the surface.Easy CleanupCleanup was a breeze with this water-based paint. Brushes and rollers washed out easily with just soap and water, leaving no residue behind. This made the whole painting process much less of a chore, and I appreciated not having to deal with strong solvents or lingering odors. The low-odor formula is another plus, making it much more pleasant to work with indoors.Impressive CoverageWith a coverage of up to 12m² per litre, the 2.5L tin provided more than enough paint for my project. I was able to cover multiple doors, trim, and a couple of radiators with plenty of paint to spare. The brilliant white color is truly brilliant—it’s a clean, crisp white that brightens up any space and holds up well over time.Final ThoughtsOverall, Johnstone’s Quick Dry Satin in Brilliant White is a top-notch paint that delivers on all fronts. The no-undercoat-needed feature, easy application, quick drying time, and hassle-free cleanup make it an ideal choice for both DIY enthusiasts and professionals alike. Whether you’re painting wood, metal, or radiators, this paint provides a beautiful, durable finish that you’ll be proud of. I’ll definitely be using this from now on for all my internal painting projects.

Great paint
I’ve used this a few times now and it is my go to paint for internal woodwork. Easy to apply and is touch dry very quickly . Recently used it on new skirting boards that were primed and undercoated first and then 2 coats of satin was sufficient for a good finish.

Not quite as good a finish as oil based, but the positives make up for it.
I consider myself a competent painter and have always done my own painting around the house. I used to use Johnstone’s oil based satin, but recently decided to make the switch to water based. After some initial doubts, I am now converted! It is possible to get a decent finish, but it takes a bit more skill than using oil based paint. You need to work faster and work in smaller sections at a time. The paint dries fast and you need to lay it off much faster than you would with oil based. It takes a bit of practise, but eventually I was getting great results. Even the most skilled painter, with the best brushes, will still get some slight visible brush strokes. Its just the nature of the product and impossible to avoid. If you want ultra smooth finish then you’ll need to stick with oil based. You also need to make sure you use a decent primer if you’re going over the top of oil based. I used Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 and also spent the time to fully key the surface and remove all the glossy finish, down to a dull matt, with 180g sandpaper. Put in the extra time to prevent the paint chipping and peeling down the line.IMO the positives far outweigh the slightly visible brush strokes and more difficult application. Firstly you can wash brushes, spills and your hands with water! I used to hate having to clean up with white spirit every time. Secondly, your entire house doesn’t stink of high voc paint for a week or two. This paint is also touch dry in less than an hour and isn’t still tacky the next day like oil based. Finally, water based doesn’t go yellow over time like oil based. I did all the woodwork last year and it’s amazing how much it has yellowed in that time when I was using the new water based paint.

Great paint
Love this paint. Slightly sanded down the paint on the door frames & wiped them down first of all then painted. Went on smoothly & quickly. Dried in no time. Did need to put another coat on copper piping but I expected to. Been on a few months now & still looks good after being washed due to muddy dogs. Really pleased, definitely the best paint I’ve bought over the years.

MY 6TH TIN WORTH THE MONEY …AMAZON DELIVERY POOR ESPECIALLY LACK OF FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS
AS much as the item arrived DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS WERE NOT CARRIED OUT AT ALL AND PACKAGE LEFT OUTSIDE PROPERTY. NO KNOCK ON THE DOOR AND NOT HANDED TO RESIDENT AS STATED WHICH MEANS THE DRIVER HAS LIED AND MADE FALSE ALEGATIONS ON DELIVERY, THE OTHER ISSUE IS WHY BOX A TIN OF PAINT AND THEN BOX THAT BOX. WASTE OF MONEY AND NOT REALLY A CONTRIBUTION TO THE ENVIROMENT WHEN LESS IS MORE. ITEM IS JUST A TIN OF PAINT, NO NEED TO GIVE REVIEW BUT DELIVERY ASPECT YES THAT NEEDS ADDRESSING
