A Game-Changer for Home Security!
Absolutely love the Ring Battery Video Doorbell Pro! From the moment I installed it (which was super easy and took less than 10 minutes), I could see a huge difference in the quality and performance compared to previous models. The video is incredibly clear, even at night, and the two-way audio is crisp and responsive.I really appreciate that it’s completely wireless – no messy wiring, and the battery lasts much longer than I expected. The motion detection is spot on and I love being able to customise the alerts and zones through the app. It gives me real peace of mind when I’m away from home.If you’re looking to upgrade your home security or want a reliable, easy-to-use video doorbell, this is 100% worth it. Highly recommend!

Addition to our Ring family
This was the next addition to our Ring system – we already had the Ring alarm system which we were very happy with, and so we took advantage of this doorbell (and chime) being on special offer. The doorbell is easy to fit and set-up, and the chime just plugs into a power socket. As with other Ring products, you use the app to scan a barcode and follow the instructions, very easy. The app offers various configuration options but we’ve pretty much left everything in its default setting as that suits us. In hindsight we could probably have got away with buying a less-expensive model because we haven’t really explored the features that this top-of-the-range model.Prior to buying, our main concern with a smart doorbell was the delay, i.e. how long would it take for a notification to come up on our phones, and how feasible would it be to have a conversation through the doorbell. We needn’t have worried, it only takes about a couple of seconds at most for the notifications to come through, and holding a conversation is definitely possible. There is no delay with the chime, it responds almost immediately – something we weren’t expecting was that our Alexa speaker would also announce that there was somebody at the door! Our secondary concern was the battery life, as we didn’t want to have to charge the battery pack frequently. We have had the doorbell about 3 weeks now, and its battery health is showing as 59% – so I suspect we will get about 2 months out of each charge, which is acceptable for us.The only problem we experienced was the wifi connectivity, with a poor connection being reported. This was surprising as the distance from the doorbell to the router is only about 7 metres, with 2 walls in between. So we decided to swap our Chime for a Chime Pro and make use of the latter’s internal ‘chime network’ as the chime is situated midway between the doorbell and router – this solved the poor connection.Very happy with this doorbell. At the moment we are still on the free trial of the Ring Home Plan but I suspect we will be subscribing to a plan when that ends so that we continue to get full functionality (e.g. video storage/access), and also possibly include our Ring alarm system in the plan.

Position is key
Does not respond as quick as we expected. But maybe needs repositioning.Otherwise it is very good, to see who is at the door.

Great Doorbell
Really good bell and more advanced from my older version. The only minor negative is the battery needs changing regularly. It drains twice as fast so you will need to spare battery but it takes seconds to change

Worse quality than the older Ring Doorbell 2. What has Ring done?
The picture quality of the Pro is noticeable poorer compared to my old Video Doorbell 2, which is 6 years old. I thought the new Pro would be a decent upgrade but I’m very annoyed that it’s a massive step backwards and I will explain why.The video is much darker in shadows which makes it harder to see features on people’s faces, even when standing right in front of the camera. Contrast is not right and there are no controls to adjust it. My old Doorbell 2 shows a brighter image that clearly shows faces in better detail instead of turning it into a shadow. The main purpose of these cameras is to record faces to show to the police to help identify a potential criminal, and the Pro fails on that account when compared directly to the Doorbell 2.The other backward step is the super-wide angle lens on the Pro which is 150 degrees. While it sees a wider view, it means the face of the person standing in front of your door is smaller, and you need to zoom in further which causes more pixelisation. Whoever thought the 150 degree lens was a good idea should be fired for ruining the product. Compared side-by-side with the Doorbell 2 with a 130 degree lens, it’s a world apart. You’d be mistaken for thinking the Doorbell 2 was the newer model. To check if I didn’t have a defective model, I called Ring support. They did the usual “reset and start again” routine with me which didn’t help, so they passed me on to the higher level of tech support. The guy saw the video quality and said that’s what to expect from the Pro, it looks normal to him.So that’s confirmed then, the quality of the new Pro is ***WORSE*** than the 6 year old Doorbell 2. As the Pro is double the price of the Doorbell 2, you’d think they’d put in a better quality camera, not a worse one. While the pixel resolution of the Pro’s camera is higher, the super-wide angle lens counteracts that because it makes faces smaller so you need to zoom in further which increases pixelisation.Night vision is supposed to be improved in the Pro, so I tested it out against my old Doorbell 2. No, no, no, the Pro was awful. My face was washed out with low quality detail. The Doorbell 2 had great contrast in comparison and my face was much clearer. Just to be clear, both doorbells were on the same wall, same position, and I was standing in exactly the same place. The Pro has a few extra features such as radar for better detection of people and the app provides a map view with dots showing where people have walked in front of your property. I can’t see a benefit to that as you can see in the video clips where people are positioned. It’s just a gimmick.I would upload an image from both of the cameras so you can see a side-by-side comparison, but I don’t want my face showing on this website, sorry. I’m either going to return it or use it as a camera for the back of our house, but either way the 6 year old Doorbell 2 is going back onto our front door as it’s much better camera.
